Amazing Raise for ACTS and Peter Paul

On September 18, go online promptly at 6 AM to Search for either ACTS or Peter Paul Development Center, follow the prompts and donate $50 via credit card. If ACTS and/or Peter Paul are one of the first 15 organizations to receive 50 unique gifts of $50 at 6 AM, the organization will receive a $2,500 bonus. This in essence doubles your gift!

The Amazing Raise is a 36-hour online donation period, hosted by, a Community Foundation entity, designed to expand and increase giving to local nonprofits that are such an essential part of the health and vibrancy of our region.

Two of our dearest partner agencies are participating: ACTS (Area Congregations Together in Service) and the Peter Paul Development Center. Donate $50 or more online at www.GiveRichmond.Org for either (or both!) during the Raise and your participation will count towards a final total that will determine eligibility for Foundation grants.

Here’s more about ACTS:

ACTS—Area Congregations Together in Service—works to prevent homelessness. How do we do that? We do it by offering financial assistance for rent, mortgage, and utility bills so people do not lose their home and become homeless which only makes for more exponential problems in the future.

ACTS is a 501(c)(3) organization. Since ACTS began receiving clients in August 2006 it has financially assisted well over 1,500 families. In its fiscal year ending June 30, 2013,

  • ACTS’ partners referred 687 households representing 1,481 people.
  • ACTS financially assisted 315 households (up from 256 last year) with $139,974.
  • Those households consisted of 750 people, including 301 under the age of 18.
  • 295 additional households were offered more appropriate resources.

Last year ACTS was able to secure an early bird prize of $2,500 by being one of the first 15 organizations to receive 50 unique gifts of $50.

Here’s more about Peter Paul Development Center:

Peter Paul Development Center (PPDC) serves children, families, and senior citizens in one of the most impoverished areas of the city. Through its flagship academic Youth Program, PPDC is working to change the trajectory of its students and Richmond’s East End – preparing students for successful high school graduation and either higher education or career. In a neighborhood where approximately ½ of its residents have not graduated from high school, this is paramount.

This year, PPDC is serving 85 students in its on-site after school program, 50 students in an after school program at nearby Fairfield Court Elementary School, and 95 students in its recently completed Summer Promise. In addition, 40 senior citizens participate in the twice-weekly program and approximately 700 individuals are served in the food distribution program.

Please set your alarm clocks for 6 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18 to donate $50 to PPDC through the Amazing Raise – PPDC would like to join ACTS in receiving one of the Early Bird $2,500 grants from The Community Foundation!
